About DBT Star College Scheme
The Star College Scheme was initiated by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in 2008 to support colleges and universities offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching across the country. This Scheme was launched for improving critical thinking and encouraging ‘hands on’ experimental science at undergraduate level in basic science subjects. On a larger perspective, the scheme was initiated envisioning that it shall encourage more students to take up higher education in science. Through this scheme the Department identifies colleges with potential for excellence and provides support for developing infrastructure for academics and laboratory activities. This support is in turn expected to invigorate teaching and provide unique exposure of students to experimental science.

Principal' Message
It gives me immense pleasure to share the positive impact and numerous benefits that the Star College Scheme, an initiative by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has brought to Hindu College.
The Star College Scheme has significantly strengthened our undergraduate science education by supplementing the support in terms of funding, resources, and training. With this backing, we have been able to foster a culture of taking up interdisciplinary and research-oriented activities that foster critical thinking and innovation. Under the aegis of this scheme, we encourage undergraduate students to undertake small research projects, thereby nurturing scientific temperament and early research skills. Further, workshops, hands-on training programs, seminars, and lectures by eminent scientists, help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world scientific research. The program also supports faculty development through specialized training programs and networking opportunities with peers across the country. The scheme has not only improved the quality of science education but also inspired a vibrant research culture within our college. It has empowered both our students and faculty to pursue excellence in scientific inquiry and contributed to the holistic academic development of our institution. I extend my sincere gratitude to the DBT for their continued support and look forward to further milestones under this transformative initiative.
Coordinator’s Message
It gives me immense pleasure to share that our institution is proud to be a part of the prestigious DBT Star College Scheme, an initiative of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. This scheme plays a pivotal role in strengthening science education and research at the undergraduate level by providing support for quality improvement in teaching, enhancing laboratory infrastructure, promoting interdisciplinary learning, and encouraging innovation through hands-on training.
Being the Coordinator, I am committed to fostering a culture of scientific curiosity, innovation, and experiential learning among our students. Through enhanced laboratory infrastructure, interdisciplinary activities, and faculty development programs, we aim to nurture future scientists and researchers who can contribute meaningfully to the scientific community and society at large. We have further tried to ensure that the benefits of this scheme reach to a larger community and hence have actively engaged in outreach programs with local schools, so as to inspire the next generation scientists.
Another highlight of our initiative is the Student Ambassador Program, where selected students serve as enthusiastic science communicators and peer leaders. These ambassadors play a pivotal role in organizing events, mentoring peers, and representing the institution in external science outreach efforts — turning learning into leadership.
We are proud to share that several of our students, nurtured under the DBT Star College Scheme, have gone on to achieve notable milestones. Our students have secured admissions to prestigious institutions for higher studies, won prizes at International/National level Conferences, and contributed to impactful undergraduate research projects. These success stories are a testament to the transformative potential of this scheme.
Through a blend of curricular excellence, community outreach, and student-driven initiatives, we continue to build a vibrant ecosystem for science education. We sincerely thank the Department of Biotechnology for their vision and continued support.
