Empowering Peers
Mentorship
Mentoring other colleges and schools to adopt the DBT Star College Scheme fosters a culture of scientific excellence and innovation. By sharing best practices, guiding on proposal writing, and offering insights into infrastructure development, we help institutions build strong science departments. Our mentorship empowers faculty and students, enhances research capabilities, and promotes interdisciplinary learning. Through workshops, hands-on training, and regular interactions, we aim to inspire and support emerging institutions in securing DBT support and achieving academic excellence.
Mentorship- Empowering Peers
Hindu College, University of Delhi, under the aegis of the Vidya Vistar Scheme, mentored Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College (NBBGC), Sikkim, to apply for the DBT Star College Scheme. NBBGC received guidance from Hindu College on comprehending the objectives, requirements, and application procedures of the DBT Star College Scheme. The Vidya Vistar team comprising Dr. Ananya Barua and Dr. Varunendra Singh Rawat along with Prof. Archana Verma visited NBBGC from 28.05.24 to 31.05.24, where Dr. Varunendra Singh Rawat briefed the faculty members about the salient features of the Star College Scheme and guided them in the preparation of a proposal, defining measurable objectives, performance indicators and budget planning and allocation strategies.
Prof. Reena Jain re-initiated the process in March 2025, when the call for applications for DBT STSR College Scheme, for the colleges in rural region and NER came out. The proposals submitted by the science departments of NBBGC were initially evaluated by Prof. Reena Jain and Dr. Varunendra Singh Rawat, and necessary changes were suggested. Subsequently, a series of online discussions occurred between the Vidya Vistar Team, Prof. Reena Jain, and the NBBGC team, during which the recommendations from various departments were actively addressed. Prof. Reena Jain and Dr. Varunendra Singh Rawat worked closely with the NBBGC team while they were submitting the proposal on the DBT portal.
Hindu College helped NBBGC file a thorough and competitive application, thus aligning with DBT’s objective of developing a mentorship model that corresponds with the overarching objectives of the Department of Biotechnology in enhancing undergraduate scientific education throughout India.
